Company History:

Apple Valley Natural Foods had its beginning in 1919 in the basement of the married student housing dormitory at Emmanuel Misisonary College in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Originally called the College Supply Store, it supplied groceries and vegetarian meat products to the faculty, staff and students. Its goal was to promote and support principles for healthful living while providing employment for students to defray tuition costs. With the store's success, a move to a larger facility on the campus of EMC was made in the late 1940's.

In 1975, the business moved to its present location, a 50,000 square foot building off US-31. The name was changed to Apple Valley as it was located on the previous site of an apple orchard. In the late 1980's, Apple Valley expanded the natural foods part of the business and opened five additional stores located throuought Michigan and Illinois.

In 1998 Andrews University (formerly Emmanuel Missionary College) sold Apple Valley to private Seventh-day Adventist ownership, who are committed to preserving and carrying on the philosophies and traditions of the original founders.
